Do It Yourself
On June 15th, Russian President Vladimir Putin got to know his people once again. For almost four hours, he fielded questions from the public in a broadcast that was live on all radio and television stations. What didn’t they ask of the head of state? They didn’t ask him to take their shoes to be repaired, but apparently the state is responsible for guaranteeing, offering, tidying and cleaning up everything else. Even though our dear Russians have lived in the harsh reality of capitalism for more than a quarter century, they can’t get their head around the fact that almost everything in life depends on them. Look at Muscovites: all of Russia envies the capitals, where there is urban redevelopment and where the dilapidated is replaced. And only Moscow residents themselves complain about how these things are inconvenient and unpleasant. In actual fact, making your life more comfortable is very simple — you can do it yourself.
1. Are you tired of sitting behind the wheel for hours? Let out your apartment and rent an apartment in the building across from your office. You’ll forget what your traffic apps are and you’ll get two more hours of sleep every day.
2. Send your kids to a school that is close to your house, and not to wherever was recommended by your wife’s friends. You’ll stop having to hound the child in the morning and you’ll be able to spend more time with them. And after all in today’s schools they don’t teach, they just prepare them for the state exams.
3. And stop placing garbage backs right outside the door of your ideal apartment. You alone are responsible for the lack of beauty in your own square meters. Start thinking bigger, make improvements in your stairwell and in the flowerbed at your entrance. Life will start to fall in place. And you can still have your live broadcasts with Putin.
